Entry Requirements You Need to Meet to Get into an Australian Institution

Australia is a beautiful country which is highly appreciated for its world-class infrastructure and practical education system. It attracts thousands of international students owing to its top class living standard with relatively lower expenses.

However, there is a range of requirements, such as the English language requirements, Australia student visa requirements, and Academic requirements, that you need to meet to make yourself eligible for studying in Australia.

Here are some basic entry requirements:

Academic Requirement

The academic requirements you need to study in the country will vary depending on the level of education you wish to study.

Following is some general information and guidance on entry requirements for the different levels of study:

  • English Language: Entry requirements vary between educational institutions, and according to the level of English language course you wish to study.
  • Schools: The requirements may also vary between schools depending on the state or territory you’ll be studying in. Candidate's academic performance and ability are considered during the application process.
  • Vocational Education and Training (VET): In the majority of cases there are no entrance exams for VET institutions.
  • Higher Education Undergraduate: To enter an undergraduate program, you will need to have an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education or the overseas equivalent.
  • Higher Education Postgraduate: Besides the satisfactory completion of at least one degree at the undergraduate level, your school may take research ability or relevant work experience into consideration.
Visa Requirements

The student visa requirements depend on your chosen course of study. Typical key requirements are:

  • Issuance of an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment certificate.
  • Meet the Genuine Temporary Entrant requirement.
  • Sufficient funds for course fee, living costs and airfares.
  • Proof of English language proficiency. The IELTS, TOEFL, and Pearson Test of English (PTE) scores are recognised by most of the Australian institutions.
  • Meet health and character requirements.
  • Acceptable Overseas Student Health Cover.
English Language Requirements

In most cases, you may be asked to provide the results of an English language test. English language skill level required by a university or institution can be different from the level of skills needed for your student visa application. You better check the visa information on the official website of the institution you choose and the DIBP for any English language requirements.

For more information about the entry requirements, you can visit the DIBP’s official website.
