Basic Yet Important Information about Australia Student Visa Requirements

Australia is the first choice for Filipino students when it comes to choosing a study abroad destination. Thousands of Filipino students say goodbye to their friends and families to pursue higher education in the Land Down Under. Home to eight among the best 100 universities in the world, Australia is no less than a paradise to gain a global education.

Furthermore, only the US and the UK- countries with larger populations- have more universities in the top 100 of the QS World University Rankings.  In our previous blogs, we have discussed plenty of reasons why study in Australia. Now, we are going to talk about the visa requirements that you will need to fulfil when applying for an Australian student visa.

Type of visa you need

For all undergraduate and postgraduate programs, you will need a subclass 500 student visa. Before applying for a student visa application, you must have a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from the university you have chosen. To receive a CoE, you will need to have a formal offer of acceptance by an Australian university.

You better apply for your visa at least 124 days before your course begins. Visa processing times may vary, but you should allow up to four weeks. However, online visa applications are considerably quicker.

Visa requirements

When completing your visa application form, you will need to give evidence of the below-mentioned Australia student visa requirements:

Financial Requirement: You must show the proof that you have sufficient funds to afford your fees, travel and living expenses. In case you have a family, you'll need to show that you can cover their living costs as well.

Health Requirements: You may be asked to take a medical or a radiological examination to show that you are in good health. International students in Australia are obliged to buy Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). You can buy this through your university or directly from the approved providers such as BUPA Australia or Australia Health Management.

English Proficiency: All international students from non-English speaking nations must provide evidence of their English language proficiency. Some popular tests for this purpose are the IELTS, TOEFL, the Pearson Test of English (PTE) and the Cambridge Advanced English (CAE).

Character Requirements: All international students choose to study in Australia will be assessed against the character requirements specified by the immigration department.

So these are the requirements that every student has to meet to get an Australian student visa. To get more information on this aspect, you can contact an AECC Global education expert.
