The Basic Understanding of Pearson Test of English

Over the years, the number of Filipinos looking to study abroad in Australia has increased significantly. A laid-back and multicultural society, top-ranked universities, and scholarship options are some leading reasons that compel Filipinos to choose the land down under as their study abroad destination.

In our previous piece, we had discussed the Australian student visa requirements. But this blog focuses on the importance and exam pattern of the PTE (Pearson Test of English), a standardised English proficiency test.
Understanding PTE

The PTE exam is developed and designed for non-English speakers to display their language skills through passing the exam. Despite being the latest entrant in the English language testing system, PTE has become quite popular among Filipinos.

Unlike other English tests, such as TOEFL and IELTS, the PTE is easier, more reliable and practical. Moreover, candidates can book the test any day according to their convenience as it is available 363 days a year at authorised centres.

Importance of PTE score

The exam consists of four sections, including reading, writing, listening and speaking. Because English proficiency is one of the top entry requirements in Australia, a good PTE score allows students to seek admission in the course of their choice. Apart from Australian universities and government authorities, the Pearson Test of English score is accepted by the New Zealand, the US, the UK and Canada.

How can you book the test?

You can book PTE exam directly from Pearson’s official website or through Pearson's affiliated agencies. All you get to do is to visit the online portal and fill the registration form. You are also required to make a payment for the exam that can be paid via the net banking or debit card. You better buy discount vouchers from education agencies to avail 10 percent discount.

Eligibility criteria

Before booking the test, you should ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria for sitting for the exam. You must be 16 years old. In case you’re 16 or 17 years old, you need to provide a signed parental consent form before taking the exam.

Exam pattern

The exam consists of questions from real life experiences, making it easier for you to score. Prepare well for the test and obtain good marks to find admission in your preferred institution.
