Requirements You Must Meet to Get an Australian Student Visa

Australia is an excellent country to study for Filipino students who want to pursue higher education overseas. The country offers many different study programs, a high-quality lifestyle and a lovely environment for international students. However, you will have to meet all Australia student visa requirements to get an Australian visa.

Before you apply for a program at an Australian university, you better contact the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) or an education consultant to know whether you will be eligible for an Australian student visa, how to apply and documents required.

General Student Visa Requirements

  • Your health
  • Your character
  • Overseas Student Health Cover
  • Accommodation and custody arrangements for student below 18 years of age
  • Your capacity to afford tuition fees, living expenses, airfare etc.

Applying for an Australian Student Visa

You can apply for the visa using a CoE (Confirmation of Enrolment) from the university you have applied, but you need to show evidence of your CoE before your visa is granted. You can apply for your visa online or in person at your designated Australian visa counter/office. You must also show proof of your English proficiency through the IELTS, TOEFL or Pearson Test of English scores. You can apply for two or more programs on the same visa when there is a clear progression from one program to the other.

Fees

A non-refundable application fee of AUD560 applies to the most visa applications. Candidates who are taking their family members with them should note that an extra applicant charge will apply for each member included in a combined visa. In addition to that, there may be some other expenses associated with the visa application, such as medical examination costs, police checks or the translation of your documents into English.

Where to Seek Help from?

The best way to get all your visa-related queries sorted is to speak to an education agent or visit the DHA’s official website. Apart from helping you with your visa application, an education agent will sufficiently guide you on why study in Australia, how to apply for international scholarships, where to live and study etc.
