Basic Yet Important Information About Pearson Test of English

Are you planning to study abroad in an English-speaking country? If yes, then you must know the fact that studying abroad requires you to take an English language test to measure and show your English language skills. Most of the institutions consider TOEFL, IELTS, Pearson Test of English (PTE) and other test scores for admission. In fact, each institution has its own set of entry requirements for overseas students.

PTE is accepted everywhere in the world by thousands of universities and immigration offices. It’s a popular test applied mostly in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the US.

Why Take PTE?

PTE is an English test for studying abroad. Several universities and education providers worldwide require certain scores of PTE. The test can be taken in more than 250 test centres around the globe and is attempted on a computer, making it safe and secure for takers. The results of the test are also available within five business days of the test.

Test Format

PTE assesses your English speaking, reading, writing and listening skills. Therefore, the PTE exam is composed of three modules (parts) which include speaking, listening, reading and writing. All these modules are taken on a computer in a single day, within a three-hour session. You will have a headset to listen and answer the questions. Also, there are twenty different question formats (interpreting information, multiple choice questions, and essay writing). Here are three parts of the test:

Part one: Speaking and Writing (77 to 93 minutes): This section includes a personal introduction, repeat sentence, read-aloud, describe an image, answer short questions, summarise written text, re-tell lecture, and 20 minutes essay writing.

Part two: Reading (32 to 41 minutes): Multiple choice questions, fill in the blanks, and re-order paragraphs.
Part three: Listening (47 to 57 minutes): Multiple choice questions, summarise spoken test, fill in the blanks, select missing word, highlight the correct summary, and write from dictation.

Preparing for the Test

Even if English is your first language, you will still need to prepare well to qualify the test. Lack of preparation can affect the test performance. PTE can be the best test for you, as the questions it contains are often drawn from daily life incidents. And, if you have chosen to study in New Zealand or Australia, you better take PTE as it’s accepted by all eight New Zealand universities and the most of Australian universities.
